- The field includes five of the top 25 in the latest Official World Golf Rankings, with one from the Top 10, Vijay Singh (because of Mickelson WD). The other three top-25 players in the field are Anthony Kim, Ian Poulter and Mike Weir.
- The field includes eleven of the Top 25 on this year's PGA Tour money list. Those players include Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Kevin Na, Brian Gay, Ian Poulter, David Toms, Charles Hoffman, John Rollins, Charles Howell III, Y.E. Yang and Mike Weir.
- The field includes eight past champions: Adam Scott (2008), Scott Verplank (2007), Ted Purdy (2005), Vijay Singh (2003), Shigeki Maruyama (2002), Jesper Parnevik (2000), Phil Mickelson (1996) and Fred Couples (1987)
