A look at this week's picks and who's hot and who isn't

This week's field includes:

  • The field includes only 14 of the top 25 in the latest Official World Golf Rankings, with four from the Top 10: Steve Stricker, Ian Poulter, Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington. The other ten top-25 players in the field are Kenny Perry, Geoff Ogilvy, Sergio Garcia, Sean O'Hair, Retief Goosen, Stewart Cink, Robert Karlsson, Luke Donald, Ross Fisher and Lucas Glover.
  • The field includes 13 of the Top 25 on this year's PGA Tour money list. Those players include Steve Stricker, Ian Poulter, Dustin Johnson, Geoff Ogilvy, J.B. Holmes, Bill Haas, Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Retief Goosen, Rory Sabbatini, Derek Lamely, Charles Howell III and Brandt Snedeker
  • The field includes all seven past champions: Sean O'Hair (2008), Mark Calcavecchia (2007), K.J. Choi (2006 & '02), Carl Pettersson (2005), Vijay Singh (2004), Retief Goosen (2009 & 2003) and John Huston (2000). The event was not played in 2001 because of the 9/11 tragedy.

A perfect way for fantasy golfers to check on the past performance of all the players in the Transitions Championship field are these performance charts, one with the players listed alphabetically and the other with the players listed by average finish.

One last way to check who is the best is through a special formula worked out in Golfstats that gives us the best average performances at the Transitions Championship in the last five years.

A a good cheat sheet is this list of odds from the top bookmakers in England.

Another cheat sheet is this list of odds from the top bookmaker in Las Vegas.

Time to look at our who's hot and who isn't:

Who to watch for at the Transitions Championship

Best Bets:

Vijay Singh
2009'08'07'06'05'04'03'02'01'00'99'98
T19T19CUTWin2

Full 2010 PGA Tour record

Good course for him at a time that his game is growing stronger

(Note on Thursday, nice pick on my part, as Vijay withdrew moments before his teeoff time at 8:27 due to a back injury. Not making any excuses but as of Tuesday and even Wednesday there weren't any hints of problems. This is the second week in a row that my main pick has had problems, last week Ian Poulter had neck problems and found out it was due to his pillow at the hotel. I feel snake bitten)

Ian Poulter

Could be a good omen for him since of the two previous worst bets turned into winners, still very disappointed at his play of late, seems to have one poor round an event
