On a day in which the weather was suppose to get worst in the afternoon, the winds and rain didn't materialise and made for easy going in the afternoon, for guys like Jim Herman to take advantage of.

Jim Herman, who is better know for working and playing golf with Donald Trump who would of been pround of Herman's course record 10-under 62, to lead by four over Andre Stolz.

Peter Herman had the round of his career, a 62 on Thursday to lead by two.

Herman a 32-year-old journeyman pro that has played on the Australian Tour and Japanese Tour, was a member of the Nationwide Tour last year, finishing 65th on the money list. Herman wasn't orginally planing on playing this swing but got into New Zealand at the last moment and made the trip, missing the cut last week in the Michael Hill New Zealand Open.

His flawless round of ten birdies and eight pars had him hit 17 of 18 greens and take only 25 putts. He got lucky by playing in the afternoon because those in the monring had to experience high winds while those in the afternoon had calm conditions, 11 of the top-17 players on top of the leaderboard played in the afternoon.

In second is Andre Stolz, who is making a comeback in Australia after hitting it big on the U.S. PGA Tour. In 2005 Stolz won the Las Vegas Invitational but since then an injuried left wrist sidelined him for years before he retired for a bit in 2007. He started playing again a year later in Australia and won the Australasian Tour's Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship last year. Stolz had a round of seven birdies and a single bogey as he hit 14 of 18 greens and took just 27 putts.

Locked in a T3rd was Paul Sheehan, Jim Carter and Bobby MacWhinnie. Some other scores, Robert Gates who won in New Zealand Open last week played great in the early stages getting to 3 under dropped back later in his round and shot a 1 under 71. Jamie Lovemark shot 68 in a round of 6 birdies and two bogeys. He is T6th and and six shots back.
